Colourmusic Announce New Album Swimsuit, Out February 4th 2019
Long-Time Fans Given Early Access to Purchase SwimsuitVia Direct Invitation
Swimsuit, the fourth full-length studio album from Oklahoma-based band Colourmusic, will be out February 4, 2019 via streaming services, digital download and on ultra-limited 180-gram edition vinyl. Colourmusic’s 4th album, composed and produced by Ryan Hendrix and Nick Ley (Flaming Lips, Brothers Griiin), is the most personal the band has ever produced. “In the way that a lot of people I know these days are preparing for the end of the world,” Hendrix states, “this album is a doomsday prep album in an emotional way. I know that some bad things are coming my way and I wanted to create a soundtrack I could listen to when those things do.” One of the primary influences of this album is water. “I’ve been trying to write music that mimics water for a while,” states Hendrix. “I’m drawn to it because it is powerful, mysterious and erotic.” These images informed the musical language of Swimsuit, which Colourmusic calls erotic noise, a mixture of rhythmic noise elements, early 90’s pool party r&b, dream pop, ambient layers, and fuzzy bass.
The general release date for Swimsuit has been set for February 4th 2019, but the band has been quietly giving their fans early access through a unique invitation-only campaign. “We’re really fortunate to have a loyal following, and we wanted to say thank you to all these people who have kept us going since we formed in 2005 by giving them our new music first. We’ve been in contact with people directly, sending emails, and only recently been communicating with fans on social media because so many have been wanting a copy that we had to show them where they can access it.”
Today, Colourmusic premieres the first video from Swimsuit, “Haunt Me.” Fitting for October and Halloween season, “Haunt Me” was shot on iPhones by the band in their studio during the recording of Swimsuit. “Our studio, which is in one of the oldest building in Stillwater, has been a hot spot for a lot of weird occurrences, and the video is what we managed to catch on tape,” Hendrix said. Nick Ley added, “The experiences influenced the mood of the record we were making for sure and directly inspired our song ‘Haunt Me’”.The song has a kind of 80's zombie dance party vibe, that Hendrix likens to Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me.”
Mixed by Chad Petree (Shiny Toy Guns, PC Quest) and mastered by Shelley Anderson of Black Lab Mastering, Swimsuitwill be available for digital download and streaming platforms on February 4, 2019. A direct-from-the-band exclusive 180-gram LP release featuring artwork by painter Samantha French will also be available in limited quantities. In-line with the band's decision to work directly with fans, copies of the LP can be pre-ordered/purchased by contacting Colourmusic directly.
